Desborough Millennium Green Fête

Desborough Millennium Green Fête

Belinda Humfrey,  founding chairman of the Desborough Millennium Green Trust,  would like to thank the Green’s Trustees and also the supporting Trustees from Desborough Community Development Trust for working immensely hard to put on a happy and successful annual Music & Fun Day in June.

It was very clear that the near 1000 visitors to the two acres of Green were enjoying this very English gathering of entertainments. The 60s Club  Brass Band,   the Braybrooke Morris Dancers,  the BBQ, Coco Joe’s Ice Cream van, the Revive Tea Tent, the small steam engine, the giant local fire engine, the clown, the country games, magnificent raffle from local firms, together with so many local organisations’ stalls (including the Civic Society, Friends of the Library, Marlow House & the Wildlife Trust, to name the obvious) - all the staples of such success,  were this June joined by a flying display of Owls (to the special delight of children as they swept over their heads as they sat) and by Desborough’s own magical mini donkeys.

Mid afternoon, the Trustees were delighted that visiting MP, Philip Hollobone, agreed to plant an apple tree to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, which he did enthusiastically. This was the purposely delayed tenth fruit tree we've planted on the Millennium Green this year. For these trees we have to thank the Jessie Cleaver Trust for a donation which has also paid for handsome new wooden slats on the ten memorial seats which needed renewal after wear from 2000. Later this year the donation will provide information boards describing the variety of "native" trees now flourishing on the Millennium Green.

It was certainly a sunny day! Thank you all.
